The status of Mustang Mesa work

The work on Mustang Mesa has begun. The heavy equipment is in place and the bad parts of the road have already been removed. Some major work is needed at one place.

Before work started on Mustang Mesa, one could see considerable damage to the road surface. While the damage was not as bad as that of Paint Pony, many sections of the road have been undermined. As with Paint Pony, this damage was due in part because the original asphalt surface was not sufficiently thick and also because the road base was neither deep enough nor strong enough to hold up to the traffic and water penetration. Below one can see the damage (left) and present status (right) of the repairs.
